Fear Not: For I Am With Thee

Fear – an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. It is being afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening.

Let us be reminded by the words of the apostle this morning brethren:

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1

Paul says, “I put thee in remembrance”, meaning he was led to remind them to let a thought be stirred up. The thought that GOD has not given us a spirit of fear. Be reminded of that this morning beloved.

You are understanding through hard trials that not all that say with their lips, “LORD, LORD” are followers of righteousness. You are given eyes to see that there is a place GOD is taking us because HE is preparing us to walk away from a world system and the evil associated with it.

While you are walking away from the evil and the love of the world, you are being ridiculed. You are being laughed at. People are getting mad at you because you do not hang out the way you once did. This is part of the separation brethren. It must happen, except you choose to live in darkness for the sake of social acceptance.

Going into he unknown will cause a degree of anxiety(fear). That’s normal, but we cannot allow fear to stop us from following HIS guidance. Look at the words HE gave to a great leader.

Moses

The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said.

And the Lord shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

And the Lord shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

HE will be with you. Fear not. HE will not fail you, HE will not forsake you. Fear not. This is only to the obedient and faithful believer. The disobedient will not have this kind of comfort, nor will they know this type of protection in the day of HIS wrath. To the children of THE MOST HIGH GOD OF ISRAEL, HE will never leave you. HE will never forsake you.

Fear not, neither be dismayed, shaken in mind, or distressed. Be strong. GOD told Moses this and had him tell the children of ISRAEL the same. Had Moses to charge the people and stir up a determination in their heart. Prepare them not to look to the right or the left, but only look to GOD. This is what these words are to you this morning.

Joshua

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1

Joshua was commanded to be strong. After his leader and mentor had died, while he was still mourning the death, while they were yet on the brink of going into the land that was promised to them, and while he was surrounded by a bunch of young adults, he was commanded to BE STRONG.

Strong – able to withstand great pressure, perform difficult task, and endure hard challenges without yielding.

But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.

13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 41

You cannot do this if you are not strong. You cannot do this if your mind is not made up. you cannot do this if you are worried about what your family will think, what your friends will think, what your coworkers will think.

Look at all the people that just lost their high paying jobs because of what they believe. It is not for me to judge whether they made the right or wrong decision, but it is to recognize that true conviction must take a firm stance, no matter what it will cost you.

That takes strength.

You have to be strong.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6

Our FATHER, which art in heaven, hallowed be THY name. Bless and praise YOU for YOUR ways and all YOUR loving kindness.

FATHER, touch and teach us to be strong in YOU. Help us to remember that YOU are with us always. Drive away sickness and disease. Restore strength and joy so that the mind is renewed that we may bless and serve YOU, now and forevermore.

Give us the power, give us the grace to endure until the end in JESUS name.
